I’m proud of myself for making it to 2016 with my catch up posts. It’s hardly a shining achievement of blogging, but I’m still awarding myself a virtual gold star!

- A Sky Full of Kindness – Rob Ryan. This was a beautiful, beautiful book. Rob Ryan’s papercuts enhance his story about the love between parents and their child wonderfully, and it really is a gorgeous read.
- Username: Evie – Joe Sugg. I had never heard of Joe Sugg before picking this up, and I have no inclination to find out more about him after reading this piece of utter crap. The story actually starts out okay, although the art isn’t fantastic, but it just veers into confused nothingness. And then I realised that Joe Sugg had neither written nor drawn the graphic novel, but managed to plaster his name all over it anyway, and I gave up on it. Do not recommend.
- Gotham Academy, Volume 1: Welcome to Gotham Academy – Becky Cloonan, Brendan Fletcher and Karl Kerschl. This on the other hand was an enjoyable read (phew!). There’s a mystery at Gotham Academy, but there’s also a mystery to most of the main characters, all of which combines into a fun read with some lovely art.
- The Girl Who Fell Beneath Fairyland and Led the Revels There – Catherynne M. Valente. I just love Catherynne M. Valente’s writing style. It’s clear and concise but still magical. This is a great entry in the series and I’m looking forward to reading more.

- Outcast, Volume 1: A Darkness Surrounds Him – Robert Kirkman and Paul Azaceta. I don’t particularly like The Walking Dead comics. I’ve read a lot of them and I just don’t think they’re well written at all. I thought I’d give Kirkman another chance though, because it’s been a long time since he started The Walking Dead. Sadly, this was disappointing. The writing was subpar and the whole thing was unnecessarily sensationalist (much like The Walking Dead, really).
- Clive Barker’s Next Testament, Volume 2 – Mark Miller and Haemi Jang. The artwork in this is still beautiful, but the story was a complete let down from the first volume. Putting an orgy in your comic, doesn’t make it edgy, I’m afraid. Plus, I’m so over the whole ‘religious fanatics gone wild’ thing, generally.
- Deadpool: The Complete Collection, Volume 1 – Daniel Way et. al. A fun collection of some more recent storylines. But let’s talk about Daken – is there anyone in the world who actually cares about him as a character??
- Seconds – Bryan Lee O’Malley. This was such a fun read. Katie feels that everything in her life has gone wrong, but then she finds a way to go back and make changes that could make things much, much better. Quirky, but thought-provoking, with a heroine you can’t help but root for. Really enjoyed this.

- Wrinkles – Paco Roca. This is the story of Ernest, who has Alzheimers, and his fight to retain a sense of who he is. It’s a hard read, but a worthwhile one with flashes of humour that lighten the mood considerably.
- FBP: Federal Bureau of Physics, Volume 1: The Paradigm Shift – Simon Oliver and Robbi Rodriquez. In a world where the rules of physics have broken down, the FBP are the people you call when something goes wrong. This had masses of potential, but it didn’t quite live up to it. I’ll probably pick up the second volume to see if it improves.
