Here’s a thing you may not know about me – I really enjoy both cooking and baking. In addition to having , I photocopy recipes from books at the library, print them from sites on the internet and cut them out of newspapers and magazines. A few years ago, I set myself the challenge of actually using the recipes, and I now try to cook something new a few times a month. So far this month, I’ve made steak pie, Mexican stew, almond and jam biscuits, and the cake which is the entire reason for this post. I’ve also remade a few things that were successful the first time around and continue to be delicious every time I make them.
This week, to celebrate the birthday of a friend, I made a cake. I wanted to make and I sort of, kind of, almost did. Which is to say that I don’t yet own the beautiful cookbook that the Mondrian cake comes from, and so made a not-nearly-as-good pastiche.
